Malinois Dogs of War

The first war dogs were trained in 1942 by the Army Quartermaster Corps and by the time the responsibility for training dogs of war had passed to the Military Police Corps literally thousands had already passed the rigorous training to become sentries, scout, patrol and messenger dogs; four of only a number of jobs they could be successfully trained for.
In Viet Nam alone war dogs are credited with saving at least 10,000 lives. They successfully found trip wires, submerged enemies, even shielded their handlers bodies with their own during gun fire. The stories related by their handlers are unending and a just testament to this faithful animal dubbed "Mans Best Friend!"
